Trust the Signs

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned since opening myself up to spirituality is learning to trust the signs I receive, even when my logical mind immediately wants to explain them away.

In fact when I first started this journey I had a very healthy level of skepticism about almost everything. Because of my background in science, my mind was very good at finding an explanation. “That’s just a coincidence.” “I probably noticed it because I’d been thinking about it.” But I’ve since come to realise that while doubt and fear are a normal and healthy part of the process, we also don’t want to dismiss every synchronicity or intuitive hit as merely a coincidence or chance.

Trusting signs is a lot like building a relationship. It happens gradually as the connection grows. And the more you trust what you receive, the more you get back. So now when something happens that feels meaningful, instead of immediately dismissing it, I try to acknowledge it with a “Got it, thank you.” And other times I’ll ask for further guidance or confirmation.

I’ll share an example. Not long ago I asked for a sign for guidance on whether it was time to approach a Japanese man I’d been following on online for support. I asked my Guides to send me a “Japanese” sign as confirmation of whether to go ahead or not. That day, I turned on Netflix and the headline screen was showcasing a Japanese restaurant series, with a smiling Japanese man and Japanese writing. Unmissable. So I smiled, acknowledged the sign… and then doubt crept in. “Maybe Netflix is connected to my phone and it knows I’ve been following this man online? Maybe that wasn’t a sign.”

Luckily my Guides (and yours) are always willing to try to get a message through, even when we are having a hard time receiving it. So two days later, when my husband and I went to get our coffee at our local cafe, one of the cafe workers handed him a Japanese eye mask as a gift, telling him to give it to his wife. Yes, seriously. “Okay, haha, got it, thank you!”

This doesn’t mean I take everything as a sign. I know that not every coin, feather or number is meant for me. But when you start to connect in with your Guides, you will also start to sense when a message is for you. In fact, I have realised that resonance is possibly the strongest indicator of when a sign or message is yours. You will feel it and just know.

So why not give it a go? And then practice trusting what you receive. You never know, it could be the start of a beautiful new friendship.
